First of the new EUROWILD courses kicks off in Germany
Under the recently launched European Oiled Wildlife response Life-long learning Development (EUROWILD) project, EUROWA member ProBird has developed and launched a brand new course – SPECIALIST Field: Search and Rescue. The course is the latest addition to the EUROWA suite of training courses for oiled wildlife response.
In December 2024, the EUROWILD project was launched with co-funding by the EU Erasmus+ Programme under the Cooperation Partnerships scheme. The project supports life-long learning of the EUROWA network, develops new training content and enhances the capability to grow the European pool of experts trained in oiled wildlife response.
Between 27th and 30th April, ProBird organised the first ever SPECIALIST Field: Search and Rescue course. The course was delivered in Elmshorn – Hamburg (Germany) and attended by 14 people from 7 different European countries (Estonia, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands and Poland). The newly trained Specialists learned how to design, set up and make field departments operational on the beach or in a facility. This included the selection and deployment of equipment, consumables and transport arrangements into the department ensuring operations run efficiently.
The participants went through an extensive field exercise where, divided in 3 different groups, assessed 3 different beach areas and organised a search and rescue operation including personnel, equipment, PPE, setting up Beach Collection Points among other things.
The SPECIALIST Field: Search and Rescue has been developed by ProBird in collaboration with technical experts from the RSPCA and WRCO and is now available as part of the suite of EUROWA oiled wildlife response courses.
