EUROWA Welcomes NOAH – For Animal Rights into the Network as Associate Member
The EUROWA Network is pleased to announce NOAH – For Animal Rights as our latest Associate Member1. NOAH are the largest NGO working for animal rights in Norway with over 20,000 members and active supporters. They have a long history of working with animals, having been established in 1989 by a group of activists with experience in environmental and animal rights work.
Over the years, NOAH has gained experience in oiled wildlife incidents in Norway. Their first involvement in oiled bird rehabilitation came in 1995 with the Akerselva Spill. They joined forces with other organisations for the rehabilitation of 100 ducks. In 2009, NOAH joined forces with organisations once more to rehabilitate birds after the sinking of the Rocknes. In 2009, they were once again instrumental in an oiled wildlife incident after the Full City tanker ran aground, where they persisted with the national authorities to carry out animal rehabilitation. As a result, 90 birds were rehabilitated, and it marked the first government-commissioned wildlife rehabilitation operation in Norway.
Furthermore, NOAH was instrumental in establishing the Network for Oil-Injured Wildlife in Norway, a coalition of organisations, biologists, and veterinarians dedicated to responding to oil spills.
EUROWA is pleased to have NOAH join our network and we look forward to working together.
