Another batch of BASIC oiled wildlife responders trained by WWF Finland
In April, WWF Finland organised a EUROWA BASIC Oiled Wildlife Response course to further the preparedness and response capabilities in Finland. The highly motivated trainees and trainers spent a full day immersed in the capture, transport, stabilisation and pre-wash care of oiled birds. Importantly, two new trainers received their BASIC course trainer certificates. 20 people attended the training course.
Having successfully completed the course, trainees are able to join the more demanding 4-day ADVANCED responder course if they wish, in order to be able to take on more responsibility in an incident involving oiled wildlife.
The EUROWA network has created a training model that ensures that oiled wildlife response training provided by members (NGO’s and rehabilitation centres) in different European countries is standardized. This means that trained volunteers and experts can easily join training events, exercises and in some cases pollution incidents in different countries, knowing that responders trained to a certain level have the same knowledge base and skills.
