Pro Bird runs first EUROWA vet Specialist courses in Germany

Last week, our member Pro Bird organised two EUROWA Veterinarian Specialist courses in Cuxhaven, Germany. Together with a trainer from Submon, another of our network members from Spain, 21 German state veterinarians were trained for oiled wildlife. The veterinarians were trained in the context of an ongoing project with the Havariekommando (German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies), Sea Alarm and Pro Bird.

The course looks at the role of veterinarians in oiled wildlife rehabilitation and is part of the training packages developed by the EUROWA network. It includes a tabletop on herd management in an oiled wildlife scenario, a lab segment where the veterinarians dissected birds, and other learning materials such as presentations on oiled wildlife rehabilitation processes, facilities and veterinarian procedures and roles.

The collaboration between the Harvariekommando, Pro Bird and Sea Alarm which funded the course aims to develop wildlife response preparedness between the 5 coastal German states.
