SON-Respons strengthens the Netherlands wildlife response network

The end of 2020 saw four rehabilitation centres joining the existing SON-Respons network, thus expanding the network of oiled wildlife centres in The Netherlands from five to nine.

Vogelasiel De Fûgelhelling in Friesland, Vogelasiel De Paddestoel in Den Helder, Wildopvang Krommenie and Vogelopvang De Wulp in Den Haag have now all formally joined the SON-Respons network, although they have been informally recognised within the close group of the network for some time.

Together with the five founding members of the network, these new official members have been taking part in the training and exercise programme organised by SON-Respons as part of the Rijkswaterstaat Dutch preparedness programme run by Sea Alarm.

All nine rehab centres have committed to the EUROWA standards for oiled wildlife rehabilitation that have been adopted by Rijkswaterstaat as the standards for oiled wildlife rehabilitation in The Netherlands.
