Project Overview

The EUROWA-2 project has been a 2-year project (01/01/2021- 31/12/2022) (with an additional 5 month extension, finishing on 31/05/2023), co-funded by the European Union Civil Protection (Grant no. UPCM Internal Action 101004777).  The project has been a follow-up to first EURopean Oiled Wildlife Assistance (EUROWA) project also co-funded by the EU in 2015-16 where EUROWA philosophy and training modules were developed.

The EUROWA-2 project aimed specifically at improving Europe’s preparedness for oiled wildlife emergencies by strengthening the current network cooperation, creating educational tools for governments and network members, enlarging the EUROWA training portfolio as well as developing a new branch for sea turtle emergency response.

The EUROWA-2 project has been coordinated by Sea Alarm and implemented through a joint effort with the participation of project partners WWF Finland, Submon and Royal NIOZ. The project has engaged responders and responsible authorities from different European countries to help develop structural arrangements for proactive management of pollution incidents that allow the integration of a timely and effective wildlife response.
